May Flower and Sunday Sewing

Sometimes during my lunch break at work I am able to baste a petal or two. It may have taken two weeks but Thursday night I was able to stitch my flower into a full bloom. These are 1/2" hexies.

It was so lovely to see the sun shining this morning. Especially as I'd done many loads of washing yesterday to hang undercover on the verandah ... which is now nicely dry, folded and put away. This allowed some time for sewing.

Seam by seam I am slowly putting this jelly roll quilt together. See that beautiful sunshine streaming in through the window?  :o)

Sewing and Sunshine are great for the Soul.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend   >^..^<

PhD Check In

Thankyou Cheryll for the reminder :)  I have been doing just a little to a couple of my PhD's. As my attention span is very very short, having multiple projects half done can be a bonus. At the start of the year I numbered 6 projects for a small online group and each month a new number is chosen and we work on the corresponding project. Although I can't see any of them being finished just yet, at least they are having progress made.

This also keeps me on task for Cheryll's PhD Challenge so here is what I've worked on so far.

This quilt I posted about in January when I added the black border.  Finished the month with cutting the blue strips and gold squares. Just need to purchase fabric for the wider border and get sewing.

February was Red Delicious month.  Not much happened but I did get the next 3 part block ready for hand applique.

March is Catalicious month.  All this one needs are the darker strips cut, join it all together with a wider border in the lighter fabric and the top will be finished.  Hmmmm! Doesn't sound like much but .... we'll see :)

I do have a small finish to share ... those petals from FNwF have been stitched together and this would be my favourite flower so far.

And for my own records when next year comes along and I have this year's blog posts printed into a book ...

... today is day 9 of being cut off by flood waters. This crossing was over 3 metres deep yesterday but has dropped to just over 2 metres today. We've had lovely sunshine this morning but the clouds are still about too.

Hexie Progress on FNwF

Friday Night with Friends seems like a long time ago now but there hasn't been time or energy to share my hexie making.

Flowers now total 6 and this left me with no more squares cut ready so..........

I'm using a honey bun for the petals as the strips are just the right width and all I do is cut them into squares. The cream is from a solid charm pack.  Enough here now for 18 more flowers.

Through the week I was able to go back to work for a couple of days and the rest of the days have been spent out in the paddocks carrying out fence work. Not much other sewing happening ... can't keep my eyes open long enough at night. I am looking forward to Saturday when a few girls from our patchwork group are attending a workshop so hopefully I'll have some progress to share.

My eyelids are winning again .... goodnight :)

FNSI Hexies

While the wind and rain lashed outside at the house, Jayne and I were quite cosy with our hexies and friends for FNSI.  I dug these out of a draw yesterday and decided it was time to get back into hexie mode. I'd actually forgotten that I had squares cut ready in a little box.

Before

 During

After

Enough petals to make another flower...no.4.  I'm adding the cream pathways to each flower as I go so that one day when I've got enough flowers, I can just start joining.  Hope your Friday night was productive.

UFO No More

Friday was a great day for finishes. I also put the final stitch in my hexagon table topper that I started making hexies for in 2010 and looked like this in February 2011.

Now here it is all completed and it won a First Place in our local show yesterday :)

Backing

Of course as soon as I put something down for photographing, the inspectors move in to do their job. I think there might have been a little tention over who had first go.

Another finish on Friday was my 1 Xmas Item for April but I'll share that one on the 25th.

Still Here and With a Finish!

Being back at work this year has severely cramped my sewing and blogging time.  Add a lack of inspriration with being busy around the house and paddocks and March/April has seen little sewing achieved. I have however squeezed a few stitches here and there and finally have a finish to share.

The story of my candle mat is in a previous post and I've slowly been adding rows of 1/2" hexies. I then quilted a base and stitched the hexie top down to complete the mat.

Only 20 days late but I can now say I finished my 1 Xmas Item for March.  I've also made a start on April's item ... how is everyone else progressing?

Today, Yesterday and the Day Before

Not so sure about the title but I thought I would work backwards with what I've been up to over the last few days.

This morning as I stepped outside with camera in hand I spied this little fellow ... not sure if he even knows which way he's going.

Time to lay out my Inchy Swap Flowers for a garden update and of course there is always help on hand. Think Fleur is claiming this garden for herself?

Yesterday these two pretties arrived from Anette in Denmark ... just perfect for spring. I started out by embroidering names in the centres so I will have to do some catching up with that.

I spent the nicest afternoon yesterday with BF Kerry. We chatted, knitted and enjoyed a movie together. Both of us were working on a scarf and I was able to finish mine off last night. Here my ever faithful model is ready for the camera.

The day before I found a second hand shop in a little town nearby and found these 2 treasures. The sweet little jug has joined the crockery set in the cupboard and I've left the utensils container on the bench for ... you guessed it ... utensils!

Today is also UFO Thursday hosted by Sandy at Cookies and Cream Craft. Although I have plenty of UFO's to choose from I need to 'feel like' tackling those so for now I'll keep working on things with deadlines.

Don't forget this Friday is Friday Night Sew-In ... think I'll either knit or embroider or perhaps a bit of both :o)

Finished Ahead of Time

I can't believe that I've actually managed to keep up with the 'Because I Said So' BOM. Here is Month 5 Block 9 all finished and I'm now awaiting the next parcel. Of course we all know how time can run away on us so no guarantee that I will stay ahead of the game but I'll do my best.

I've also finished the stitchery for another Christmas Bon Bon from Hatched and Patched. Hopefully I can get at least 2 made for August's One Xmas Item ... I'm aiming to give one for each of the ladies in my family at Christmas time.

Lastly here are the two hexie flowers which have arrived safe and sound at Kristina's house in USA for the July swap. The August flowers are on their way to Croatia and would you believe I forgot to take a photo of them.

I have BIG sewing plans for today .... May you find time for sewing this weekend.

Monday's Show and Tell

Just a couple of little things to share on this fine and cool Monday.

A little bit of sewing this morning to join the 2 1/2" squares to each block. The first is block no. 7 ...

and block no. 8 of 'Because I Said So' BOM.

Block 9 is in progress and then I shall have caught up unless the next package arrives before completion.

These two little July flowers arrived safely in the USA to blossom in Kristina's garden.

If you head over to Sandy's blog you can link to see what other bloggers have shared.

FNSI and Fabric Buys

My results for Friday Night Sew-In. This will be for my One Christmas Item A Month when I get the bon bon made. I'm hoping to stitch another in green.

Before sitting down to stitch I cut into these sweeties and prepped some squares ready for centres for the 1/2" hexie flowers. The cream squares will make pathway hexies.

Lots to do before the end of the month ... I still need to add embelishments to my Stay At Home Robin projects and I am determined to work on a UFO.

Happy Sewing

Flowers in the Mail

Look what I found growing in my mailbox.

Geniene was most generous and sent extra blooms after she'd had a mishap with her hexie flowers. A funny story involving a load of washing although I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time.
Thankyou so much Geniene. They go perfectly in my garden and the butterfly centre is a special treat.

Yesterday was my local patchwork day and oh boy did my elbow give me curry last night from stitching this block. The deep heat was also good for the sinus :)

Try as I might my UFO's remain as is. I have laid one out on a bed ready to work on so just maybe I'll have some progress to share soon.

One Flower Wednesday

My second 1/2" hexie flower came together a lot faster than the first. I seemed to be all thumbs at first but am slowly finding a rhythm with the smaller size.

You can see many more beautiful blooms by visiting Karen ... just click on the sidebar button for One Flower Wednesday :o)

A Little of This and That

Since my post on Friday 'things' became very busy and will continue to be busy over this weekend also ... but it's all good :o)

Saturday night I managed to stitch the second block from Paula's 'Home Sweet Home' BOM found here or by the link on my sidebar. Finished block is 4 1/2" square.

I've been meaning to share all my lovely hexies that have been coming or going since joining the Inchy Hexagon Swap hosted by Jane of Want It, Need It, Quilt.

December 2010 made for Shruti

December 2010 received from Janet

January made for Jessica

January received from Jacqueline

February made for Elizabeth

February received from Joanne

Time once again for Friday Night Sew-In this Friday the 18th. If you haven't signed in yet there's still time ... just pop on over to Handmade by Heidi.

Wishing all a lovely weekend.

O.F.W. and Other Sewing

My 1" hexies table top has come to a standstill until I can sorce some more of the green fabric. It only needs 12 more hexies to finish the border on the top left side and then I'm ready to back it and quilt.

My hexagon making won't be at a standstill though ... I've moved onto 1/2" hexies. This little fellow was for my SAHR project ... more will be made to add to a UFO quilt.

Another shabby bag hanging from the poinciana tree ... this one was waiting for buttons to be attached at the base of the handles ... I'd bought some and lost them so now I've bought more and attached them straight away.

Last night I finished off some applique for round 8 of SAHRobin ... notice the little hexie?

This one has two red hearts blanket stitched on.

This sewing caddy with matching scissor fob will be in the post shortly as a New Beginnings kit
once I make up a little drawstring bag to keep the kit all together.

And lastly these two little drawstring bags have already been sent on their way.

Phew! Still have a couple of things to tick on my February 'to-do' list including the third round of Stitching Round the Block ... we swap next Wednesday so I'd better get stitching.
Now if I can just squeeze in some progress on a UFO and make something for Christmas before the 25th!
