June Wrap

 More of the mundane than sewing but it's slowly happening.  I finished of the sewing of Row 3 for my Temp Quilt and have since cut what I could of all the triangles for the year. Now I'm just waiting on a few more fabrics to arrive for the missing temps and I can get on with Row 4.

Chookshed Challenge June ~ Crochet rug is coming along nicely and this is my June progress pic ... did I mention I'm not speedy and I need to pick it up more often.

Monday I sandwiched the 12 scrappy blocks and began quilting ... quilt as you go and I'll join with a cream sashing I think. I went with a fancy zig zag type stitch in the ditch and a spiral for the snowballs.

About a week and a half ago, our son had a fall from his horse while mustering ... luckily he only has a broken collarbone which is worry enough. We have our 12yr old grandson J here for school holidays and trying to get our mustering and weaning done. (calves old enough to be weaned from mum)  Of course some days the weather has been horrible ... throw in a couple of unscheduled town trips and plans can change pretty quick. The sun is currently trying hard to come out so that will be nice if it does.

Even baking a loaf of sourdough is tricky to fit in as I need an afternoon to prepare the loaf which then rests in the fridge overnight for baking next morning. I'm really happy with how they're turning out though and fingers crossed I've got a method that works for me and gives a good result.

I'm just waiting on a call to head up to the cattle yards shortly so I'll wrap this up, maybe squeeze in a blog visit or two and await the release of the July Chookshed Challenge number.

Hearts and Scrap Play

 Little 'Cuddle Hearts' have been posted. My dear friend has also been through her stash and has several sets ready to post.

I've had scrap play vibes so my time in the van has been spent colour sorting pre-cut candy strips Along with the 4 purples, I now have 3 each of yellow, cream and browns with 6 blues...green next. No plan yet for the blocks but I've managed to make a good dent in the containers.

Scrolling good old Facebook, I spied a colour wash quilt made from 3.5" blocks sooooo....

 It's called "Colour Wash Quilt Challenge" by Terry Rowland on Youtube. They make great leader/enders while sewing other projects. No time frame on these, I'll just keep making and storing until one day.

2025 Temperature Tree has progressed with some February leaves now.

Last Thursday I had a lovely invite to Grandson J's school for Student Investiture. J is a very proud House Captain and his best mate is School Captain ... last year of Primary School, oh my!

We've been fortunate to enjoy some beautiful rains so far this year and it's so lovely to see all the green ggrassin the paddocks and in the cattle yards ... although mowing around the house is never ending but we won't complain too much about that.

Time to squeeze in some bookwork to keep up to date ... doesn't mean I can't have a second screen open and multi-task with a little blog hopping.

April Wrap - May Challenge

It was a late start to Challenge #9 but the knitting needles have been clicking away and it's coming along fairly quickly.  I'm on the home stretch but with approx. 200 stitches (and still increasing) on the circular needles, it takes me time to get a row done ... I'm not the world's fasted knitter.

Another finished quilt top has been added to the pile.  Just a lot of scraps and an idea of how to put them together ... very happy with how it all worked out.

Now with a promise to complete #9 in May ... the number for Chookshed Challenge May is .......... #5 - Temperature Quilt.

I've just finished Row 3 for 2024 which took us up to April 27. 

I do also have my 2023 Temp Quilt which just needs borders ... so ... Challenge Accepted.

Off to make some lunch ... have a beautiful Wednesday

Unearthed Mystery

At the start of the month, while I was looking for my #2 Strips project, I unearthed a small plastic container and dared to peak.  If I'm being honest, there's more than one small plastic container in a large tub but one at a time.

This particular one contained fabric already cut into strips of varying lengths and sorted into sets, each with a 2.5" square ... and about seven 6.5" blocks already sewn.  Last patchwork day I had a last minute change of project, packed the sewing machine and got to joining those sets into more blocks.

Yesterday I finished sewing the last few blocks, auditioned some fabrics for a border and ... hey presto. Finished size is 42" square ... a nice size for a lap quilt to keep me warm in front of the TV. I have no idea how long it has sat hidden away but I'm pleased to have a completed top.

Now on with the Strip Insertion Quilt ... I've managed to track down the pattern. We're having a planned power outage for maintenance today so I'm rushing to get a few jobs down; fill the hot water flask for future cuppas; pressed this top; quick vacuum and then I can sit outside in the sunlight and do some handwork.
