A Finish or 2 of Sorts

 The Chookshed Challenge was just what I needed ... thank you ladies. I've kept working on a couple and have finishes to share. 

Challenge 2 - 'Crochet Rug' - Finished

Challenge 4 - "Strip Insertion Quilt" - Finished Top

I have to admit to stalling on this month's challenge but I did work out the new crochet pattern I mentioned. 

And then there's Row 2 of my 2024 Temperature Quilt 

Of course the recent school holidays meant Sleepovers with Masters 10 and 4 who love helping with the cattle work. This particular morning tea menu was pikelets and mug cakes. 

So that's a little catch up on April and I still have time to work on the current Challenge #9.

This, That and Everything Else

Sigh ... where do I start.  Had a lovely time today, zooming with the Chookshed Stitchers. When asked what I had been up to my replay was "taking a long time to achieve very little".  Honestly, where does the time go?

Once a month I like to attend a card making afternoon, that's when the rains don't arrive on that one day and I get stuck at home.  I did make it in August and just realised I don't have a photo of that card.  The sweet gnomes are from July that I didn't get to but the lovely lady kept a kit for me.  The flower pot were a previous afternoon.

Once again I didn't get round to posting my August 'Churn Dash' blocks so here they are.

And for something different, here are September's blocks and we're only a 1/3 of the way through the month.

Last Tuesday I got to go and mind this little Picaso. We also did a big tidy up in the sandpit, baked a chocolate cake for daddy's (my son) birthday and did the school bus run for big brother.

Our little Patchwork Group of  8 along with local artists, are currently having an exhibition in the local Art Gallery. These are some of the girls quilts ... my flimsies are the 2 folded over coat hangers and the 2 folded over a towel rack. The birdhouse wall hangings were our Christmas gifts to each other in 2020.

So ... tomorrow I'll take a pick of the card I missed and my first tuffet and what I was working on today/tonight.  Do we ever catch up?

 

May I Please ...

May I please have a chance to catch my breath?  A full household and crazy at work and I'm exhausted by evening. It's taken me way too long to finish the binding on Flynn's quilt but last night was it.  Photo shoot this afternoon.

Older brother joined in with his quilt. Not much grass cover ... It's forgotten how to rain.

Block 4 of A Merry Christmas Garden should have been finished too but I've only managed the final prep.

2019 Up and Running

Already one awesome family filled week has passed.  New Years Day lunch was spent with our daughter and Grandson P, our son and daughter-in-law and Grandson J.  Our son-in-law had to stay back for work.  Then my parents arrived and the following day we hit the road for a 9 hour road trip north and west back to our daughter's place for a longer visit.

So lovely to be able to celebrate with Grandson P on his 2nd Birthday.  Happy Birthday gorgeous little man xx

One day we went for a sightseeing drive towards Middlemount and passed a coal mine up close.

On the last day we went for another sightseeing drive, past the Bedford Weir and ended up in Blackwater for lunch.

Then we were up bright and early for the return 9 hour drive.  Needless to say it was early to bed last night and a slow day today putting the house back in order, packing away "stuff" including Christmas as there just wasn't time beforehand.

Now it's back to 'normal';  housework, washing's on, bills to pay and by the end of the month it will be back to work. Some sewing plans have been made and started so I'm hoping my posts will include many more crafty projects this year.  Already I have 3 projects ready to commence so bring it on!  We won't mention all the UFO's.

Traditional Windy August

A chilly wind is howling outside today ... so I'm staying indoors playing with wool and fleece. Fresh off my knitting needles is a new wash cloth, perhaps a baby cloth in these soft colours.

I've just put my last cloth into use at the kitchen sink and oh boy is it absorbent ... love it!

Our youngest grandson P is off to daycare once a week and DD asked if I would like to make a shaggy bag for his 'nap time' things ... then later it can become his library bag. Diving into my stash I found two packs of 5" squares ... so why not make two bags while I was at it.  Pictures show both sides of each bag with 'I Spy' fabrics.

While August seems to be the month for making progress in the sewing room, this week I found my polar fleece fabric purchased to make some more bunny rugs. I don't think I've even shown this one on my blog ... made a couple of months ago.

Makes a sweet gift set for a baby girl I think.

So I now have the fleece cut ready for 2 more bunny rugs with matching face washers.

Also, a couple months back, a local fabric shop showed a pic of a doggy print fleece she had in ... so I just had to buy some with the intention of making a new coat for Millie. This one is lined with leftover fleece from the first bunny rug so a little more stash busting as well.

Yesterday I cut out 3 more doggy coats ready for sewing.  And I still have the 2nd half of the ball of wool to knit another wash cloth.

Not forgetting that my lovely little tags for Ruth's Quilt are sitting in the draw waiting to be trimmed to size along with gorgeous black/white fat 1/4's. But I don't want to frighten away my newly refreshed mojo by jumping in the deep end.  I'll just keep floating about somewhere in the middle ... finding my balance.

Sheep, Bird, Goat and Horse ... little bird needs a wing.

A busy week with travel, farm shopping and catching up with a lovely friend Fiona.  We both look forward to our annual stroll, shop, chat around Farmfest and of course a coffee. Thank you for braving that horrid traffic and making it a great day ... I heard that the next day's traffic was just as full on.  It never hurts to dream either and wouldn't this gorgeous She Shed make a wonderful addition.

Then it was off again to a campdraft/rodeo/show day out with this little birthday boy ... Happy 2nd Birthday gorgeous grandson.

Onward with the next full week of visitors, mustering and off-farm work.

Another Week Down and FNWF

Hello April ... do you know it's supposed to be Autumn? Where's the cooler weather!

You'll find me tonight under the fan, watching a little TV,  knitting and perhaps an embroidery stitch or two for a change.  Pop over HERE if you haven't signed up yet for ...

Another busy week with family visiting to help with the muster.  Just love spending time with this little monkey ... who just loves being in the outdoors.

While enjoying some outdoor time with camera in hand I snapped this beauty.

Hoping next week will be a little slower and I will find some time to go blog visiting and just maybe do a little sewing ... who knows?  For now I'm off to reheat leftovers for dinner and settle in for a bit of sewing/knitting With Friends on this Friday Night.

Our week that was ...

Wrapping Up 2015

As 2015 comes to a close, I have a couple of finishes to share. The first is a design by Michelle Ridgway which I had been working on for a while. The stitchery had been done and waiting for a sewing spree which finally happened... just in time to wrap for my Christmas Swap Gift at our Patchwork Group Break-up on December 14. Loved making this tote and needle case.

I also finished the second red Santa Face knitted dishcloth but there was no way I could get my camera to take a reasonable picture. There was a little reverse knitting required at Patchwork Day. Then to use up the remaining blue and green cotton, I knitted up this cloth for a spare for myself.

With all the gifts wrapped and feeling organised for once ... I decided to check out where I'm up to with 'A Merry Christmas Garden' ... hoping to focus on this quilt for 2016.  Block 2 is almost finished and just needed the rectangle and square pieces cut out and a star made before sewing together. So then I spread out blocks 3 to 6 and cut all the fabric for these to make sure all my fabrics were distributed as evenly as possible.

We have also had some very noisy visitors. Twice a year a large flock of Black Cockatoos fly over our house in the late afternoon and again at early morning. The sky can be almost black with them and a few stop off to chow down on trees around our house.

Christmas Day was a relaxed day with family ... some we hadn't caught up with in quite a while. Gorgeous Master J was busy trying out his new trike from Aunty L.

Looking forward to a new year with wonderful new memories to make and lots of crafty finishes too.
