How has a third Friday for October come around so quickly?  Rush over to Wendy's to join in for a lovely night with like minded friends.  I''ll be working on my crochet rug and maybe start on another wash cloth for my Christmas stash.

We've been fortunate to receive some lovely rain in the past week, luckily without the destructive storms that have caused heartbreak for many.  Still feeding our cows though so that they can stay strong and care for their babies. Millie tries to get the calves to play but usually the mums step in.

Well, my BAS (tax stuff) is done so mopping the floors is next on my agenda, I should stop procrastinating I guess.

FNWF Report

Thank you Cheryll for hosting once again in 2018 ... happy to report I was pleased with my efforts and enjoyed a lovely night in.  First off was some tracing to get me back on track with Ruth's Quilt ... stitcheries 10 to 15 for December and January.

November stitcheries 7, 8, 9 were finished off the night before.

While making a quick trip to my Brother's place yesterday, this friendly feathered friend stopped by to share my snack by the roadside. I was sitting in the car with the door open so it used the top of the door for a perch.

Home again and after some more gardening in the late evening, I put the finishes stitches in the January block for AHCC which I had started on Friday night.

With the temperatures rising this morning, this happy chapping was taking advantage of the solar panel for our landline radio telephone.

Now I'm off to see what else others were making on Friday night.

Just a Little Brag Post

Yesterday was our local show and while I spend the day helping out in the office, it's always nice to have a couple of entries in the pavilion ... the more the merrier and we always have an excellent display of flowers, cooking, craft and much more for our little show.

I was lucky enough to catch the judges eye with these two entries.

I'm afraid there hasn't been a lot of time for anything else much ... I did start another new project, crochet this time (just can't stay focused for long) ... and have been adding a couple of rows each night. It was a kit using 3 strands of no. 8 wool and a 15 mm hook.

The cool change in the weather has been nice but I'm not liking the yukky throat, tickly cough and hot eyes this morning ... I'm off to crochet some more ... the rug is big enough now to keep my knees warm while I work.

November Finishes?

Just maybe there is a chance that these little projects will make it over the finish line ... I don't have a good track record for finishes this year.

First is my day 2 stitchery from SDDO ... completed and all cut out ready for the sewing machine.

While I was cutting, these 2 stitcheries from Day 1 had all their bits and pieces cut out ready for the machine too.

Someone thinks she's a bit of a clever clogs...standing on mum's lunch.

Now for some Sunday sewing.

Time to Touch Base

Another week flown by...hard to believe it's already been 5 weeks since the wedding and 4 weeks since attending the Stitchers Dream Day Out.

Last weekend was spent with this adorable little man ... perfect weather to break out the sand pit.

Friday morning the Equine Stork delivered this little girl ... like mother, like daughter.

Last night I stitched the last flower in my sweet bunnies from Day 1 at SDDO ... now to make them up before Spring is over.

I realized I never got back to sharing my Day 2 where I shared a double table (the naughty table) with a group of lovely friends old and new. Another amazing day spent stitching, chatting, yummy food and coffee ... all too soon it was time to make the 4 hour drive home :(

This was the example of my lovely project the second day, so now I can pick it up where I left off. Love working with the purples.

Green Hills and Dam

Now that title is sounding a lot like someone's favourite story.  Computer is also charged and operational ... so much nicer all round. What a difference some good rain can make.

Beautiful red from the poinciana tree and the mock orange tree's white blossom has the most lovely fragrance.

We've fenced off some of the house yard so the horses can have a treat.

Still busy moving cattle about so that they all get access to some new green grass. There's not a lot of it yet ( a long way to grow back) so some have gone back to their paddock and the others are rotated about to give the grasses a chance to rejuvenate.

So time to get organized for Christmas with a few last minute chores around the house before family arrive in a couple of days.

Chillin'

What does one do when the temp is rising to heatwave levels?

Chill on the verandah with your sister of course. These two are rarely this close to each other except at meal times ... so this was a rare photo opportunity to get them both in the one picture.

And watching one of the dogs run past. No dog dares venture up here!

Rusty and his girls also get extra free range time when the weather is hot. We've been trying to keep a strip of green grass around the house with dam water. They love to pick and chase insects through the garden.

As today is the last day of September I've taken a progress shot of my Red Delicious block. With some catching up here and there I have managed to equal one thread per day plus a couple extra.

Should be done and dusted by the end of October. This little tortoise keeps plodding on.

Where To Begin?

A good nights sleep has been elusive this last week thanks to a persistent cough.  I'm sure you know the one ... the minute you lay down to sleep the tickle begins and won't let go until you cough and then you can't stop. Day time isn't much better either.

Add in hearing and then watching a car roar away from your home late at night and coming to the realization that it's your car and someone has just stolen it. Thanks to the swift response of Police we were lucky to have it found dumped at a service station in the next town but ours was only one of a string of goings on. It's very hard for the brain to comprehend what the eyes are seeing when it's thinking that's not possible. Gave up on sleep that night.

Thankfully with the bad there is good to make us smile. The next morning this beautiful little girl had arrived into our world.

Today is getting back to 'normal' with washing on the line and another load in the machine. Might put a loaf of bread in the maker shortly and there's a half knitted scarf waiting to be finished too...think this one is number 11 of the ruffle variety.

Tieing Up Loose Ends and Another Visitor

Time to admit that my TTS wasn't quite finished when hung on the wall for Christmas but I've fixed that.  The label had been stitched previously and is now sewn to the back. One loose end tied up!

This next project has lots of loose ends. I'm yet to tie and burying all my quilting threads and still have half the binding to sew.  I would love to know how others end off their quilting threads?

Hubby spotted this fellow visiting at lunch time. 

I guess any shade will do in this heat and Mr Goanna didn't mind sharing our home...thankfully he was happy to stay downstairs under the house.

Visitors

The other day I noticed these guys strutting across the lawn towards the garden bed. It wasn't long before they were tossing the mulch aside to find whatever treats lay beneath.

First Day Out

Last year and again this year Mr and Mrs Swallow have built their nest on our verandah. Yesterday was the first time out of the nest for these 3 youngsters.

Mum and Dad kept flying around and encouraging them to take flight but they were quite happy to perch close to home. I guess they will soon progress out to the clothsline and return each evening as did the 4 babies last year.

While occasionally checking on the young family, I prepared 3 stitcheries for sewing at night, made some half square triangles and turned them into 7 pinwheels. 2 have been sewn to block 10 of Because I Said So and I'm busy adding some applique before the remaining 5 are sewn on to complete month 6/block 10. I also have month 7/block 11 ready to embroider.

My poor roses were feeling quite neglected and I have pruned them rather late this year. Here's the first Double Delight bud full of promise.

Another Hot One!

The fog had rolled in by about 7am this morning ... this usually means we're in for a hot one ...

Mr and Mrs Whistler Duck brought the family out early this morning to forage through the dewey grass for all sorts of tasty treats.

Taken about an hour later, they'd moved to the front yard for a little shade.

Here are those elusive magpies that wouldn't co-operate for Black and White Friday. It's only 10am and they're already staying in the shade.

One Flower Wednesdays & Feathered Visitors

I think this one among the autumn leaves is my favourite so far.


Lately there has been a lot of evidence (droppings) that a small flock of these guys have made our yard their home. This morning I spotted these two enjoying a green pick outside my window.
